Mārtiņš Staķis is a Member of the European Parliament for Latvia, sitting in the Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA), the green and regionalist group, and representing the national party Progresīvie. The mandate began on 16 July 2024, in the 10th parliamentary term. Before joining the Parliament, Staķis was Mayor of Riga from 2020 to 2023 and a member of Riga City Council from 2020 to 2024. Earlier roles include Member of Parliament of the Republic of Latvia and Parliamentary secretary at the Latvian Ministry of Defence, both from 2018 to 2020. From 1998 to 2010, Staķis was marketing director at the Narvesen Baltija / Preses Apvienība press group.
