Privacy and cookies
What we measure when you use WheresMyMEP, and what the site keeps in your browser.
In short
- We use no advertising cookies and no ad trackers.
- We count visits with two cookieless tools: PostHog (EU servers) and Vercel Web Analytics.
- Cookies are set only if you sign in, to keep you signed in.
PostHog (product analytics)
We use PostHog's EU cloud (eu.i.posthog.com) to see which pages are read and which links and buttons are used. It runs in cookieless mode: it sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser's local or session storage.
To count unique visitors, PostHog computes a hash on its servers from your IP address and browser user agent with a salt that changes every day. That means there is no identifier that follows you from one day to the next. We don't create a profile for you, and we don't attach your email address or name to analytics events. Session recording, heatmaps and surveys are switched off.
Vercel Web Analytics
Our host, Vercel, counts page views and a few named events (for example, when the contact form for policy teams is opened or sent) through Vercel Web Analytics, which does not use cookies.
What the site keeps in your browser
A few preferences are saved in your browser's local storage and never leave your device: your light or dark theme, MEPs you star in the directory, the email address you typed in the directory (so you don't have to type it again), and the date a prompt was last shown so it isn't repeated. You can clear them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Email and forms
If you sign up for alerts or send us a message through a form, we keep what you submit so we can send what you asked for or reply to you.
