Iratxe García Pérez is a Member of the European Parliament for Spain, sitting with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), the centre-left group, and belonging to the Partido Socialista Obrero Español. In the 10th parliamentary term, García Pérez is Chair of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, a post also recorded for the 9th term. Earlier, García Pérez was Chair of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality from 2014 to 2017. Before joining the Parliament, García Pérez worked as a social worker in 1995–1996 and was a Member of the Spanish Congress of Deputies during the 7th parliamentary term, 2000–2004.
