Adina Vălean is a Member of the European Parliament for Romania, in the European People’s Party (EPP), the centre-right group, and belongs to the Partidul Naţional Liberal; the current term, the 10th parliamentary term, began on 16 July 2024. Earlier, in the 8th parliamentary term, Vălean was Vice-President of the European Parliament from 2014 to 2017 and then Chair of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety from 2017 to 2019. In the 9th parliamentary term, Vălean was Chair of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy in 2019. Between 2007 and 2014, Vălean was Vice-Chair of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.
